OUR UNIVERSITY OF THE THIRD AGEFrom our launch meeting on 27th of January 2009 and the inaugural meeting on 24th February 2009, membership of the Keyworth & District U3A rose to around 500 and has since stablised with an annual turnover of around 50. We have around 40 activity groups, ranging from archaeology to yoga, with a vast range of subjects in between, including the learning of languages. It's a wonderful opportunity for retired people in both the local and wider communities to enrich their lives by learning new skills and developing new interests, which act as a social vehicle, whilst retaining a fun element. In addition to our group activities, we hold monthly meetings, with a guest speaker, which have been very well-attended. We provide an essential service for older people in Keyworth and the surrounding district. Encouraged by our successes to date, we intend to continue promoting our U3A in ways which augment our future development.
As a local U3A we are an independently managed, self-governing association with our own constitution. As a Member of The Third Age Trust, which is our national support and advisory body, we adhere to the aims and guiding principles of that organisation. We are a “university” of people, who come together to share and pursue learning in all its forms.
To demonstrate the benefits and enjoyment to be gained and the new horizons to be discovered in learning throughout life.
To celebrate the capabilities and potential of older people and their value to society.
To make our U3A accessible to all older people.
To support and collaborate with other local, regional and national U3As, and where possible to work together with international partners on joint programmes and events.
