SHORT WALK 19TH OCTOBER 2010
The next short walk will take place on Tuesday, 19th October and will be to one of our favourite walks, around Attenborough Reserve. As ‘regulars’ will know, we try to make this walk in different seasons. This is the first time we will have been in Autumn and the colours should be lovely. Some of the winter birds should have arrived. If you look at the notice board at the entrance, there will be news of arrivals and unusual occurrences.
This walk will be led by Ken Doyle (974 3612), who will be pleased to meet regulars and new comers in the village hall car park at 10.30 for car sharing to Attenborough.

Some of the Co-operative Gardening group are going to the RHS garden at Harlow Carr near Harrogate on Sunday 12 September.  The coach trip is being organised by the Burton Joyce U3A garden group and will cost  12.  Entrance to the garden is free as Nottinghamshire U3A is  affiliated to the RHS.  Karen, the leader, has organised a tour of  the gardens for us.
Would anyone interested please ring Pat O'Neil on 9374543 for more details.

A new Water Colour Group will be starting shortly. Our new Leader is Megan Little, a Keyworth lady who has recently become a member of K&D U3A. Megan will be ‘launching’ her Group at the Open Meeting on 24th August, in the Village Hall. Although Megan is very pleased to teach beginners, she will also welcome those with some experience.

A new member, Neil Pinder, has joined K&D U3A and is set to breath new life into the ‘Wildlife’ Group. Neil is very involved in all aspects of the Keyworth Wildlife Meadow. The Group has been run until now by Roger Cowper and has languished a little as Roger has been unwell, but now Roger will be working with Neil to offer a totally refreshed Wildlife Group. Neil will be at the Open Meeting on 24th August to meet existing members of the Group and to encourage others to sign up.

One of our first members, Alan Morris, will be leading two short courses on Philosophy in the early 2011. The courses will comprise 4 sessions each and will have a maximum membership of 10 people per course. The first course is already full, but if you would like to sign up for the second, please do so at the Open Meeting (24th August) or phone Barbara.

Now for two very different things. Firstly, we are hoping to set up a Ukulele Group for beginners. We have a leader and some interest. If you would like to try something really different, sign up at the Open Meeting or phone Barbara.

Secondly, there is a possibility that we may be able to set up a Belly Dancing Group. If you think that you may be interested, please come along to the Centenary Lounge on Monday, 6th September at 2pm for a fun demonstration and a cup of tea and a bun. (Cost 1 towards hire of the hall.)

For more information on any of these events please phone Barbara Wallace 937 6266.

The Singing for Fun Group meet on Wednesday 18th August at 2 – 4pm in the Parochial Church Hall.  From then on the Group will be returning to the Methodist Church for meetings on Wednesday 15th September, Wednesday 20th October and Wednesday 17th November.

Keyworth Methodist Church
The building work on Keyworth Methodist Church is now complete and the keys have been handed to the church officials. It now remains for the church to furnish and add all the finishing touches. K&D U3A will be able to use the church and hall from early September so our August Open Meeting (24th August) will be the last one in the Village Hall (what a joy it will be not to have to move all those chairs again!) and our September Open Meeting (28th September) will see our return to the Methodist Church and Hall.

The Methodist Church will be holding a celebratory weekend on Saturday 25th and Sunday, 26th September. There will be a special service at 10.00am on Saturday morning followed by an Open Day, where all are welcome to attend and see the work that has been done. Following the normal Sunday service, the church will again be open all day. I know that our friends at the church will be very glad to welcome as many U3A members as possible.
